Berniece Burkey

Mrs. Oliver (Berniece) Burkey, 74, of 400 S. Locust, Mt. Pleasant, died Sunday, May 15, 1988, at 7:40 p.m. at her home.

She was born Jan. 14, 1914, near Hillsboro, the daughter of Charlie and Nellie King. She married Oliver Burkey Jan. 29, 1931, at Washington.

She was a member of the Congregational Universal Church in Mt. Pleasant, and formerly was employed by the Mt. Pleasant News.

Surviving are her husband; one son, Leroy Burkey, Durant; three sisters, Mrs. Ellen Smutz, Fairfield, Mrs. Velda White, Washington, and Mrs. Eliza Kiger, Mt. Pleasant; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Cecil; and four brothers, Harry, Charles, John and Pat.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 18, at 1:30 p.m. at the Congregational Universalist Church, Rev. Charles Tweed officiating. Interment will be in Forest Home Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Beatty-Wilkins Funeral Home. Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. Tuesday. A memorial to her church has been established.
