Clarence E. Amen

Clarence E. Amen, 83, died Friday, March 25, 1988, at Delmar Gardens Nursing Home, Chesterfield, Mo.

He was born May 5, 1904 in Linn County, Mo., the son of Charles J. and Ida Anderson Amen. On July 9, 1925, he married Ella M. Hess who died Dec. 12, 1966.

Surviving are one son, LeRoy, 2225 Ole Castle Court, Chesterfield, Mo. 63017; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and one brother, Carl Arthur, Brookfield, Mo.

Mr. Amen spent 46 years in public education. He held graduate degrees from Northeast Missouri State University and University of Missouri, Columbia. In Iowa, he served as superintendent of schools in Bonaparte and Donnellson. He was director of teacher education at Iowa Wesleyan College from 1947-48. In August 1948 he was elected Henry County superintendent of schools serving in that position for nine years.

Mr. Amen was a member of the Methodist Church, a 52-year member of the Masonic Lodge, a member of local, state and national education associations, holding many leadership positions in these organization.

Masonic services were held at Scudiero and Sons Funeral Home, Bucklin, Mo., Saturday, March 26, at 7:30 p.m. Burial services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 27, at the funeral home with interment in North Swedish Lutheran Cemetery north of Bucklin.
