Virgil Trabert

Virgil F. Trabert, 1008 E. Monroe St., Mount Pleasant, died at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, at his home. He was 77.

Born Dec. 22, 1908, at Lockridge, Mr. Trabert was the son of Frank A. and Cora M. Nelson Trabert. On Nov. 23, 1940, near Lockridge, he married Helen M. Britton; she died Oct. 20, 1961. On May 23, 1963, at Mount Pleasant, he married Elberta A. Deam Potter.
He was a 1927 graduate of Lockridge High School. He farmed near Lockridge until serving in the Navy during World War II. From 1945 until 1949 he operated a chicken farm at Delaware. He moved to Mount Pleasant in 1949 and worked for Ervin Motors. In 1950, he farmed near Stockport. From 1955 until 1927, when he retired, he owned the Trabert Insurance Agency in Mount Pleasant.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Mount Pleasant, the Iowa Insurance Association, and the Southeast Iowa Underwriters Association.

Surviving are his wife, Elberta of Mount Plesant; two sons, Gary Trabert of Burlington, and Rick Trabert of Omaha, Neb.; one stepson, Kent Potter of Santa Ana, Calif.; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Susie (Jerry) Snyder of Mount Pleasant; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Friends may call as they desire beginning at noon today at the Weir Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m.

Services for Mr. Trabert will be 1 p.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church, Mount Plesant, with the Rev. George White officiating. Burial with military rites will be held in the Forest Home Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for the Mount Pleasant Little League and the Girls Softball Association.
