Lillian Hazel Baird

Lillian Hazel Baird, daughter of Albert and Lydia Hoskin Higgins, was born June 11, 1896 at Schaller, Sac County, Iowa and departed this life the morning of Thursday, Nov. 26, 1987 at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center, Keosauqua, at the age of 91.

Most of her life was spent in Milton. She graduated from Milton High School, worked in the former Citizens Bank of Milton and for 30 years in State Savings Bank in Milton and Cantril.

At an early age she joined the Methodist Church and was active in Grace United Methodist Church of Milton as long as her health permitted. She was a 60 year Member of Chapter AD, PEO, and served several years as Milton town treasurer.

On January 5, 1932 she married Clay Baird in Lancaster, Mo. He died August 2, 1956. Her parents and a baby sister, Ruth also preceded her in death.

Surviving are several cousins including Helen Boyd of Milton who was raised with Hazel, Helen's family, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 28, 1987 at 1:30 P.M. in Grace United Methodist Church, Milton with Rev. Andrew Rubenking officiating. Interment was in Sunnyside Cemetery, Milton. A memorial was established for the Van Buren Good Samaritan Center Van Fund. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua.
