Carl W. Hayes

Carl W. Hayes, son of John and Mary Johnson Hayes, was born August 29, 1901 at New Boston, Illinois and died Saturday, November 28, 1987 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 86.

He grew up in the Muscatine area, lived near Selma and Troy, in Milton and Douds, and had resided the past two years at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center, Keosauqua.

Carl was a retired employee of the Dexter Company in Fairfield. He married Mildred McNatton in 1945. She died in 1983. Also preceding him in death were an infant son, Jerry, a brother, Sam, and a sister, Dorothy Chapman.

Surviving are two sons, Thomas of Elsberry, Missouri and Frank of Keosauqua; a daughter, Pamela Besco of Ottumwa; nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren, and a sister, Edna Oakes, Muscantine.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 30, 1987 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds, with Reverend Lester Terlouw officiating. Interment was in Leando Cemetery. A memorial was established.
