Edna Smith rites at Ottumwa

Edna Smith, 82, former Wapello County resident, died at 12:35 p.m. Tuesday at Parkview Care Center, where she had lived since 1983.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Chapel in Ottumwa with the Rev. Clair Odell officiating. Burial will be in Blakesburg Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. A memorial to the Heart Fund has been established.

Mrs. Smith was born Sept. 8, 1905 at Blakesburg, the daughter of Harry and Laura Dell Thayer Derby. She married Lawrence Smith March 10, 1925. He died Dec. 27, 1983.

Surviving are two daughters, Betty Reed of Indianola, Rosemary Hall of Oklahoma City, Okla.; five sons, Winfred of Moulton, Marlin and Howard, both of Birmingham; Wayne of Hedrick; Lowell of Fairfield 22 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth Derby of Ottumwa, Thayer Derby of Collins and a sister, Pauline Smith of Stewart, Tenn. Two brothers and two grandchildren preceded her in death.
