Harry A. Burnett

Harry A. Burnett, 91, died at 5:31 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at Van Buren County Care Facility, Keosauqua.

Born Jan. 12, 1896, in Lee County he was the son of Grant and Effie Grimm Burnett. He married Pearl E. Meredith Jan. 29, 1917. She died in 1959. He married Louella Cleworth Aug. 16, 1960. She died in 1974.

He grew up near Bonaparte and graduated from the Carpenter College of Mortuary Science in Des Moines in 1914. He worked in funeral homes in Waterloo and Keokuk and in 1918 purchased the furniture and funeral business is Keosauqua. He operated the Burnett Funeral Home, Keosauqua until moving to Alhambra, Calif., in 1950.

He worked for 18 years as Van Buren County coroner. He was a member of the Keosauqua Christian Church and First United Methodist Church, Alhambra. He was a 60-year member of Keosauqua Lodge No. 10 A.F.&A.M., was a York Rite Mason and a member of the Kaaba Shrine, Davenport, and the Alhambra High-12 Club.

Surviving are a son, Kenneth, Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter, Wynona Dahlquist, of Honolulu, Hawaii; a stepson Lloyd Wingert of Sacramento, Calif.; and four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors at the Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday.

The services for Mr. Burnett will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Pedrick Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bob Patterson officiating. Interment will be at the Sharon Cemetery, north of Farmington.

A memorial has been established to the Van Buren County Care Facility and contributions may be left at the funeral home.
