Loy Small rites set Friday

BIRMINGHAM - Loy Small, 96, former Birmingham resident died at 4:15 a.m. today at Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk.

Graveside services with military rites will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Maple Hill Cemetery at Birmingham. Friends may call at their convenience starting at noon Thursday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield. A memorial has been established to the Birmingham Presbyterian Church.

Small was born March 31, 1891 in Anaconda, Mont., the son of Frank L. and Anna Malvina Hootman Small. A U.S. Army veteran of World War I, Small was a farmer in Van Buren County and had run a maintainer for the Van Buren County Maintenance Unit. After retiring, he was a janitor for the Birmingham Presbyterian Church.

Small is survived by several cousins. Two brothers preceded him in death.
