John Cornelius rites Sunday

John Henry Cornelius, 64, 807 S. Fourth, died at 6 a.m. Thursday at his home.

Services are set tentatively for Sunday afternoon at Raymond Funeral Home. Burial will be in McDowell Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday. A memorial has been established to Boys Town in Omaha, Neb.

Cornelius was born Aug. 1, 1922 in Caddo County, Okla., the son of Henry and Lillie Argo Cornelius. He grew up in Oklahoma, lived in Keosauqua, and in 1952 moved to Fairfield. He was an auto mechanic and had been employed at Rockwell International for 23 years when he retired April 1, 1985. He married Florence Haynes Aug. 14, 1947 at Kahoka, Mo. A World War II Army veteran, he was a member of Disabled American Veterans.

Surviving are his wife; a daughter Judy Holmer of Tannerville, Pa.; two sons, Jerry and Mike, both of Fairfield; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his mother, Lillie Wilson of Minco, Okla.; three sisters, Nellie Maupin of Minco, Okla., Ruth Ritchey and Shirley Kaup, both of Oklahoma City, Okla. His father preceded him in death.
