MAVIS M. STOOKESBERRY

Mavis Marjorie Fisher Stookesberry, 70, of Milton, died Oct. 15, 1991, at her home.

She was born Oct. 28, 1920, near Milton to Clarence W. and Goldie Strait Fisher. She married Clark W. Stookesberry on Sept. 7, 1947, in Milton.

She was a 1939 graduate of Milton High School and graduated from School of Cosmetology in 1941. She owned and operated the Moderne Beauty Shop in her home for 40 years. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Van Buren County Republican Women, Russell-Strait Unit of American Legion Auxiliary of Milton, United Methodist Women and had been a 4-H leader and a member of Van Buren County Central Committee. She was the founding president of Milton Heritage Society.

She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Marlene of Knoxville, Ill., and Joyce of Milton; a son, John and his wife, Sonia of Milton; three granddaughters, Faith, Stefany and Nancy. She is also survived by a brother, Lloyd Fisher of Bloomfield; and a sister, Mary Louise Short of Milton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Helen Ardis Barker.

The service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 18, 1991 at Grace United Methodist Church in Milton, the Rev. Kim Eanes officiating. Burial was in Lebanon Cemetery.

Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Lebanon Cemetery or Henry County Dialysis Unit and may be left at the funeral home.
