Former Alton Man Dies At Edgerton

Okke Poel, 75, of Edgerton, Minn., passed on at his home Sunday. He was the last surviving brother of Mrs. Steve Eason of Alton, and an early resident of this vicinity. Mrs. Eason and son Oscar called on Mr. Poel Thursday, when he seemed somewhat improved. On Sunday Mr. and Mrs. George Eason called and were in the Poel home when their uncle passed on.

Funeral services were held at Mr. Poel’s home Wednesday at 1:30. Mrs. Eason and a number of Mr. Poel’s nephews and nieces from this vicinity were present at the services.

Minnesota death certificate 1940-MN-012134 (informant Tryntje Prins) has Okke Pool, husband of Trijntje Prins; born October 12, 1864 in the Netherlands; parents Stephanus Pool and Hiltje Bosgra; resident of the U.S. 72 years and of Edgerton 33 years; died at 5:10 p.m. May 26, 1940; cause, arteriosclerosis, particularly cardiac arteries, duration 1 year; inadequate cordia blood supply.

His FindaGrave.com page has Okke “Oscar” Pool, born 12 Oct 1864 in Grootegast, Groningen, Netherlands, died 26 May 1940 in Pipestone County, Minnesota, buried in Hillside Cemetery in Edgerton, Minnesota. Parents Stephanus Wiebes Pool (1820-1897) and Hijlkje Bosgra Pool (1826-1905). Siblings Tiete Pool, Maria Elizabeth Pool Eason, Susan Pool Eason, Annie Pool Mulder. Wife Trijntje Prins Pool (1874-1957, married 1895). Children Anna Marie Pool Tinklenberg (1895-1970), Hattie Pool Van Essen (1896-1986), Simon Pool (1897-1985), Steven Pool (1904-1995), Garret Pool (1906-1970), Theodore Pool (1911-1999), Peter Pool (1913-2003), William Pool (1915-1963), Marion Pool (1919-1997). There is a photo of his headstone.

The Sioux County marriage register for 1894-1895 has groom Okker Pool, age 30, resident of Orange City, a farmer, born in Groningen, Netherlands, parents Stephanus Pool and Wieltje Boschra; bride Tryntje Prins, age 21, resident of Orange City, born in Ondyk, Netherlands, parents Simon Prins and Antje Brouwer; married at Orange City February 4, 1895.

The 1900 U.S. census for Nassau Township, Sioux County has Okke Pool, age 35, born Oct. 1864 in Holland, immigrated 1868, a farmer, married 5 years; wife Tryntje, age 26, born Sept. 1873 in Holland, immigrated 1893, mother of 2 children; children Annie M. (4) and Hattie (3). In 1910 they (as Oscar and Kate) are farming in Leota Township, Nobles County, Minnesota; his immigration year is given as 1877, hers as 1894; he is naturalized. In 1920 he is Okke again, immigrated 1868 and naturalized 1875; her name is given as Trena, immigrated 1892. In 1930 they are also Okke and Trena, still farming in Leota Township. In 1940 they are Okke and Trientje, living in Edgerton with their son Marion.
