Mrs. Henry Hyink of Orange City Passes

Mrs. Henry Hyink passed on Sunday, August 11, at the Cherokee state hospital, where she was a patient for several weeks preceding her death. She had been ill with a complication of diseases for some two years. She was 63 years and 9 months old.

Mrs. Hyink, the former Annette Van Es, was born at Newkirk on Oct. 15, 1876. She was married to Henry Hyink of Hospers on May 24, 1900. She is survived by her husband, now residing at Alton; by six children, John B. Hyink, Vermillion, S.D.; Gerrit Hyink, Chicago; James Hyink, Cleveland, Ohio; Mrs. Dick Van Laar, Alton; Marion Hyink, Whittemore, Iowa; Walter Hyink, at home; by a sister, Mrs. Jane Roos of Hospers; one brother, John Van Es, Orange City; and by six grandchildren. One child died in infancy.

Mrs. Hyink was a devoted wife and mother and a good neighbor. The many friends of the family sympathize with them in their sorrow.

Funeral services are being held this Thursday at the Van Etten funeral home and the American Reformed church, of which she was a member. Among out of town relatives expected are Mr. and Mrs. John Hyink and family of Vermillion, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Hyink of Whittemore, Mr. and Mrs. Gt. Hyink and daughter of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. James Hyink and son of Cleveland. The five sons and son-in-law, Dick Van Laar, will be pallbearers.

A similar obituary was published in the Sioux County Capital, August 15, giving her name as the former Antoinette Van Es, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerrit Van Es.

Her death certificate (informant Cherokee State Hospital) has Antoinette Hyink, wife of Henry Hyink; born Oct. 15, 1876 in Sioux County, Iowa; parents’ names unknown, both born in Holland; resident of the Cherokee State Hospital 2 months, 27 days; usual residence Orange City; died at 6:12 p.m. August 11, 1940; cause, chronic myocarditis and myocardial degeneration, duration 1 year; due to arteriosclerosis; other conditions “manic depressive psychosis manic”; buried at Orange City.

She does not appear in the Sioux County Cemetery Index. Her FindaGrave.com page has Antoinette Van Es Hyink; born 25 Oct 1876 in Newkirk, died 11 Aug 1940 in Cherokee; buried in West Lawn Cemetery, Orange City; parents Gerrit Van Es (1824-1898) and Teuntje Tillie Sterrenburg Van Es (1834-1895); five siblings listed; spouse, Henry Hyink (1874-1953, married 1900). (His FindaGrave page shows he died 5 July 1953 in Phoenix, Ariz., buried in West Resthaven Park Cemetery, Glendale, Arizona.)

The Sioux County marriage register for 1900 has groom Henry Hyink, age 26, resident of Hospers, a merchant, born in Milwaukee, parents John B. Hyink and Tantje Niewenhuis; bride Nettie Van Es, age 24, resident of Hospers, born in Sioux County, parents Garret Van Es and Teuntje Sterenburg; married in Hospers May 24, 1900.
