Darlene was born on February 28, 1932 in Sheldon, Iowa to Fred and Goldie (Wells) Heiliger. She graduated from Sheldon High School. Darlene married James Oldenkamp on June 30, 1949. She was a proud homemaker to her family, and her favorite times were spent with her children, 20 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Darlene looked forward to always having family over to eat every Sunday, then changed to once a month as everyone got busier. Once Covid-19 hit, those gatherings had to be given up. She was known for her chocolate chip cookies and Scotcheroos, and years ago, Darlene always made peanut brittle and anise candy at Christmas time for her family and friends.

Darlene was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church for over 65 years and enjoyed her membership to the Joy Circle. She taught Sunday School and helped cook meals for the youth groups in the old church. Darlene loved to read books, play Dominoes and Marbles, along with watching the Hallmark Channel.

Darlene is survived by her children, Rick (Wendy) Oldenkamp, Daryl (Donna) Oldenkamp, Julie Heckart, Jody (Debi) Oldenkamp, all of Sioux City, and Randy (Michelle) Oldenkamp of Ontario, Oregon; 20 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband James, brother Jim Heiliger, daughter Donna Oldenkamp, son-in-law Bill Heckart, and great-grandson Austin Oldenkamp.
