Peter Bartels, Sr. Passed Away
Peter Baretls, Sr. Passed away late Wednesday afternoon, Jun 15 at his home in Sioux Center. He was 85 years old last January and had been in poor health for months. Mrs. Bartels too has been ill and this time is still in weak condition. Funeral arrangements haven’t been completed as we go to print. The date depending on whether or not a sister from Washington plans to come. The funeral, however, will be held n the Central Reformed church, and interment in the local cemetery.
Mr. Bartels was a pioneer settler in this community and was the first deacon of the Carmel church.

He leaves to mourn him 9 children, many gran and great grandchildren, and Mrs. Bartels. A complete obituary will be published next week.

June 23, 1938 Sioux Center News:

Peter Bartels passed away at his home June 15, at the age of 85. The funeral was held from the home and Central Ref. Church on Saturday, June 18, with Rev. Meengs and Rev. Brunsting in charge. The remains were interred in the Sioux Center Cemetery.

Mr. Bartels is survived by his widow and eight children: Mrs. Albert Wolfswinkel of Mooreton, ND, Ralph, Henry John, Albertus and Mrs. Neal M. Punt all of Sioux Center: Mrs. C. Wolfswinkel of Kelso WA; Mrs. George Meerdink of Hull. There are many grandchildren and some great grandchildren. Mr. Bartels was married before and his first wife preceded him in death about 20 years ago.

Peter Bartels was born in the Province of Drenthe Netherlands, 58 years ago he came to the US. For 23 years they farmed near Sioux Center and retired to town in 1903. During all these years he was active in church work.

He was the son of Hendrik Bartelds 1826-1897 and Jantje Strijk. See his obituary.
