Translated:
Died Sunday morning in Orange City, after having been ill with cancer in the stomach for quite some time, Mr. J. Aalfs, aged 72, died at the home of his daughter Mrs. K. De Jong. The funeral held at 2 Tuesday afternoon. The service was held in the First Ref. Church under the direction of Rev. Englishman. The mortal remains were then transferred to Le Mars, and entrusted to the lap of the earth next to his wife and a little son who preceded him in death. . Mr. Aalfs has been lived in our midst for years, at the home of his daughter, Mr. J. D. Young, and left with her some years ago to Orange City. For years he has been a member of the Second Ref Church here. Here at Sioux Center he leaves behind many friends and the dignified, quiet and modest old man was highly regarded and respected by everyone.

Research note: From a family report on line done by others, Jan ‘John’ Aalfs was born 13 Dec 1845 in Wierum Groningen Netherlands, his parents were Jakobus Hendriks Aalfs 1818-1859 and Roelfke Boersema 1817-1848. He married Anna Postema born 26 May 1847 Noordhorn Zuidhorn Groningen Neth. Died 16 Dec 1897 LeMars Iowa

They married at Grijpskerk, Groningen on 29 Apr 1870, Jan Aalfs was 24 years, Anna Postema was 22 years, Jan was the son of Jacobus Hendrik Aalfs and Roelfke Boersema, Anna was the daughter of Nittert Pieters Postema and Dieuwerke Kampstra. Their children were Jacob 1871-1952, Dina 1872-1944, Ruth 1874 and Nittert 1876-1959.
