Translated:
Zondag passed away under Middleburg after a long and painful suffering Jan VerHoef, the 23-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Teunis Verhoef. It will be remembered that this young man had a leg cut off in the summer because of a cancerous growth. He had recovered from it so well that last autumn he was able to plow again with the help of a knucklebone. However, the ailment had just been healed. Later the cancer broke out again at the back of his head and now he had been sleeping with it for a year, until death put him out of his misery on Sunday. The funeral will be today. Take place on Wednesday, from the Ref. Church in Middleburg.

From the First Ref church of Sioux Center membership found Teunis Verhoef and wife Lammertje Hoeve, they left for Middleburg in 1897 They had children – Jan Zeger Verhoef born 21 Nov 1888, Geertje born 1891 died 1895, Jacob born 1893 died 1893, and Geerjte born 1897.
