From the Luverne (Minn.) Star-Herald, May 30, 1979:

Funeral services for Elizabeth Doherty, 89, long-time area resident, were conducted Tuesday at St. Catherine’s Church at Luverne. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Alvord, Ia. Monsigneur Thomas Ploof and Monsigneur John Doherty officiated. Patrick Doherty, Jr., John Doherty, Mark Doherty, Paul Doherty, Frank Lynch, James Lynch, Thomas Walser and John Walser were pallbearers. Holm Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth Doherty died Friday at the Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne. She was born January 24, 1890 in Illinois. When she was three years old the family moved to the Rock County area and farmed near Larchwood, IA, and Kanaranzi. She attended area schools and taught in country schools and at Alvord, IA.

Elizabeth Margaret Lamb and Vincent LeRoy Doherty were married Dec. 25, 1918 in Rock Rapids, IA. They farmed near Alvord until Vincent Doherty’s death in 1932. In 1937 the Doherty family moved to a farm near Kanaranzi. Elizabeth Doherty continued to farm until 1951 when she retired and moved to Luverne. She was a member of St. Catherine’s Church in Luverne.

Elizabeth Doherty is survived by two sons, Patrick Doherty, Ellsworth, and William Doherty, Magnolia; two daughters, Helen (Mrs. Quentin) Lynch, Plainview, and Dorothy (Mrs. Charles) Walser, Mankato; twenty-seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and seven sisters.

Her husband’s obituary (posted separately) says that he had been a lifelong resident of Sioux and Lyon counties and a frequent visitor to Rock Valley. No obituary for her was found in Sioux County or Rock Rapids area newspapers.
