JENNIE BROMMER HEEMSTRA, 101, of Sioux Center, Iowa died Sunday afternoon, January 25, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital Long-Term Care Unit.

Funeral services were Friday, January 30, at 10:30 am at the Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Rev. Van Rathbun officiated. Interment followed in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. Visitation was held Thursday from 2 pm to 8 pm, with the family present from 6:30 pm to 8 pm at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center, Iowa.

JENNIE BROMMER HEEMSTRA was born on June 3, 1902 in Orange City, Iowa to Henry and Dora (Kleinhesselink) Boone. On September 23, 1921 she was united in marriage to James Brommer. Following their marriage Jennie and James made their home in Sioux Center, Iowa. To this union four children were born: Lester, Donald, Thelma and James Jr. James Brommer passed away at the Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis on July 5, 1938 at the age of 41.

Jennie married Henry W. Heemstra on April 1, 1943. They were married in Hospers, Iowa. Henry Heemstra preceded her in death on October 7, 1983 in Sioux Center. At the time of his death he was 89 and had been married to Jennie for 40 years.

Jennie lived a long and happy life. Her family’s memories of her are happy and many. Jennie was a member of Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center and was a charter member of the Doornink-Brunsting American Legion Auxiliary in Sioux Center.

Survivors include her four children and their spouses: Lester and Marian Brommer of Sioux Center; Donald and Anne Brommer of Sioux Center; Thelma and Garth Madsen of Okoboji, IA and James and Penny Brommer, Jr. of Bend, OR along with 16 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Jennie is also survived by Henry’s children and their spouses: Angeline Elgersma of Sanborn, IA; Albert and Berdella Heemstra of Hospers and Lois and Boyd Ford of Mesa, AZ along with 16 step grandchildren, 32 step great-grandchildren and 26 step great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to both of her husbands, Jennie was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Roxi Baerenwald; one grandson, Brad Brommer; her son-in-law, Henry Elgersma; one great-granddaughter, Sarah Sandbulte; her sister, Artie Vander Tuig and seven brothers: Gerrit, Arie, John, Andrew, Henry, William and Doris Boone.
