Fred Van Dieren, 70, of Ireton, died suddenly Sunday, May 12, 1991, at a hospital in Sioux Center.

Services were held Wednesday at the Christian Reformed Church in Ireton, with the Rev. Wybren Oord officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, with military graveside services conducted by Bertram Post 276, American Legion of Ireton. Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Ireton was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Van Dieren was born June 14, 1920, at Hawarden. He lived his youth in the Hawarden and Ireton area. On Dec. 28, 1944, he married Fannie Engeltjes in Lebanon, Iowa. He served in the Army during World War II from 1945 to 1946. After his discharge, the couple farmed in the Ireton area, and moved into town in 1985.

Survivors include the wife; a son, Glenn and his wife, Deb, of Hawarden; a daughter, Jan Riemersma, of Sioux Center; three sisters, Mrs. Henry (Effie) Brandes of Inwood, Mrs. Hank (Fannie) Kruid of Rock Valley and Mrs. Dick (Hattie) Williams of Huron, S.D.; and four grandchildren, Cody and Kylee Van Dieren of Hawarden, Kristi Riemersma of Sioux City and Jason Riemersma of Sioux Center.
