From the Alton Democrat of Feb 7, 1903
Theodore Hoxmeier and sisterinlaw Mrs. Margaret Hoxmeier left Sunday night for St. Donatus in respouse to word that H. Hoxmeier the aged father of Theodore was at the point of death. Mrs. A. E . Goebel of Alton is his daughter and was already at his bedside . They had hardly left before a telegram came announcing that the aged gentleman passed away Sunday evening. Deceased visited at the Goebel home here last year. Bernard Kettler of the Dubuque house is his nephew and all the older Germans of Alton were his friends and aquaintances. Regarding his demise the Catholic Tribune of Dubuque says H. Hoxmeier of St. Donatus died Sunday evening at the age of eighty-two years after a brief illness, well prepared and forified by the last rites of the church. The deceased was a staunch catholic and lived and died true to his catholic convictions. He leaves to mourn his death the following children: Rev. G. Hoxmeier of Lansing Iowa, Theodore Hoxmeier of Alton Iowa, Mrs. Dominic Krier of Farmer South Dakota, Mrs. A. Goebel of Alton Iowa, and John at home.
One son Micheal Hoxmeier whose wife is a sister of Peter Even of the firm of Even & Fuchs of Dubuque preceded his father in death. The interment took place from the family residence to the catholic church and cemetery at St. Donatus Wednesday morning at ten o'clock.
(His name was Henry Hoxmeier born Sep 1822 Germany died 1 Feb 1903 Jackson Co. IA wife was Susanna Nemmers.)
