G. VAN DIEREN DIES MONDAY
Funeral Services Held This Noon For Resident of Hawarden Vicinity For Twenty-Eight Years

Gerrit Van Dieren, 32, a resident of the Hawarden vicinity 28 years, died at the Hawarden hospital at 3:45 Monday afternoon [May 5].

About six weeks previously, he submitted to an operation and returned to his home. Later it was discovered that he was suffering from a serious ailment and he went to Rochester to seek medical aid. When he returned from Rochester he entered the hospital here again.

Funeral services were held at his home, five miles east of Hawarden, at 12 o'clock today and at the Old Reformed church at Sioux Center at 2 o'clock with Rev. John Van Zweden of Rock Valley in charge. Interment was at Sioux Center. Pall bearers were Tony Vande Hoef, Roy Searle, Henry Huenick, Albert Brunsting, Henry Van Bruggen and Gerrit Byker.

Mr. Van Dieren was born at Sioux Center February 9, 1915. He was married to Christina Wallenburg February 28, 1940, at Ireton.

Survivors are his wife and two children, Janet, 5 years, and Kenneth, 2-1/2; his father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Van Dieren of Ireton; three sisters and one brother, Mrs. Arie Vos and Fred Van Dieren of Hawarden, Mrs. D. Williams of Bonville, S.D., and Mrs. Henry Kruid of Hudson, and one step-sister, Henrietta Post of Ireton. His mother died December 26, 1929.

A brief news note in the Sioux Center News (May 8, 1947) says:

Gerrit Van Dieren, 32-year-old farmer living near Hawarden, died at the hospital there Monday from cancer. He returned from Rochester a week ago.

His estate was valued at about $7022.76, consisting of $1082.76 in cash and $4940.00 in livestock and farm equipment (Alton Democrat, July 24, 1947). An action sale notice later in the year itemizes his livestock and farm machinery (Alton Democrat, Oct. 2, 1947).
