Edwin Van Berkum
Edwin Van Berkum, age 81, of Inwood, IA, formerly of Sioux Falls,SD, died Tuesday, January 19,1999 at the Fellowship Village at Inwood. Funeral service was Saturday at the New Life Assembly of God Church at Inwood. Burial was at the Hills of Rest Memorial Park at Sioux Falls, SD. Rev. Ed Lawrence officiated. Visitation was Friday at the Porter Funeral Home at Inwood, Iowa.Edwin Henry VanBerkum was born April 11,1917on the family homestead near Lester, IA, son of John and Ann (Van Wyhe) Van Berkum. He married Eva Henrietta Van Oort on her family's homestead NW of Inwood on September 5,1940. Together they lived at Bellfiower, CA six months where Ed worked for a dairy, one year near Orange City, IA where Ed worked for a farmer, one year near Lester where he worked for a farmer, In 1943 moved to Sioux Falls, SD where Ed worked for Morrells and at a soybean mill five years, before purchasing Van's Garbage Business that he operated for 39 years. Ed and Eva moved to Inwood, IA on November 6, 1987 and to the Fellowship Village on November 30, 1998.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Eva of Inwood, IA; three sons and their wives, Henry John and Barb Van Berkum of Sioux Falls, SD, Larry Dean and Bonnie Van Berkum of Lake Havasu City, A2, Pastor Roy Allan and Ten Van Berkum of Black Hawk, SD; one daughter and her husband, Beverly Carol and Eugene Ver Steeg of Inwood, I A; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Alice Prins of Orange City, IA; sisters-in-law, Dotty Van Berkum, Marie Van Berkum, Wes Van Berkum all of Rock Valley, IA, Katie Van Berkum of Orange City, IA.
