CRAIG, Iowa -- Alice M. Schlichte, 77, of Craig passed away Saturday, March 25, 2006, at Brentwood Good Samaritan Village in Le Mars, Iowa, following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Granville, with the Rev. Dan Greving, Pastor of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Struble, presiding. Burial will be in the parish cemetery at Granville. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Monday, with a 4 p.m. rosary by the Altar-Rosary Society and a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Struble. Visitation will resume one hour prior to services Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Granville. Arrangements are under the direction of Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars.
The former Alice Mae Ahlers was born Sept. 8, 1928, on the family farm near Granville, the daughter of Henry and Frances (Schneider) Ahlers. She grew up at Granville and attended St. Joseph's Catholic School in Granville. Alice married Gregory Joseph Schlichte on Oct. 1, 1951, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Granville. Following their marriage, the couple lived most of their married life in the Struble and Craig areas. Since the mid-1980s they lived in Craig.
She was a 50-year member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Struble, where she had held the positions of vice president and president of the Ladies Aide. She was instrumental with helping to get the spring and fall dinners started at the Struble Church. Her hobbies included collecting salt and pepper shakers and collecting spoons. She also enjoyed embroidering and handiwork and playing cards.
Survivors include her husband, Greg Schlichte of Craig; six children, Denny and Cindy Schlichte of Le Mars, Jeannine Schlichte of Le Mars, Ken and Cindy (Berner) Schlichte of Merrill, Iowa, Jerry and Nancy Schlichte of Brunsville, William and Beth Schlichte of Le Mars, and Joyce Ludwigs of Craig; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Odelo Ahlers of Danbury; and a sister Angeline Klein and her husband, Gerald of Granville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Karen in infancy; and a sister, Saverna Fisch.
Pallbearers will be Jason Schlichte, Chad Schlichte, Kari Gengler, Theresa Kroll, Chris Schlichte, Nicholas Schlichte and Kenzi Ludwigs.
