Walter Vander Vliet, 89, of Sheldon died Wednesday, February 16,1994, at Prairie View Retirement Home in Sanbom. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon with the Rev. Gary Roozeboom officiating. Burial was in East Lawn Cemetery, Sheldon with Sanbom Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Vander Vliet was born Dec. 10, 1904, in Sioux County, the son of Henry and Minnie (Burgers) Vander Vliet. He lived his youth and received his education in the Carmel area. He married Nellie Brunsting Jan. 15,1925, in Hull. The couple lived in the Hull and Sioux Center areas before moving to Sanborn in 1935. They fanned southwest of Sanborn and moved to Sheldon in 1956. She died July 28, 1982. He continued to make his home in Sheldon until moving to Prairie View Retirement Home at Sanborn on May 18,1989. Mr. Vander Vliet was a member of the First Reformed Church of Sheldon.

Survivors include three daughters, Angeline "Ann" Miller of Paullina, Mrs. Lyndon (Mary) Greimann of Rochester, Minn., and Mrs. Les (Virginia) Lameyer of Sioux Falls, S.D.; 15 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Cornie Vander Vliet of Luveme, Minn.; and two sisters, Winnie Ver Mulm of Rock Valley and Mina DeJong of Montevideo, Minn. He was also preceded in death by two daughters, Geneva and Nelva; a granddaughter; two sisters; and four brothers.
