Margaret Van Engen
Margaret Van Engen, 80, of Hull died Friday, September 3, at Sioux Center Community Hospital. Services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hope Christian Reformed Church in Hull with the Rev. Carl Klompien officiating. Burial was in Hope Cemetery.

Mrs. Van Engen was born October 12, 1918, at Hull, the daughter of Peter and Jennie (Van Pykeren) Vander Schaaf. She was raised at Hull, where she graduated from Western Christian Academy in 1936. She graduated from the Lutheran School of Nursing in Sioux City in 1939. She married Fred Van Engen on May 13, 1943, at Hull.

They made their home in Hull. He died November 5, 1991, in Sioux Center. She was employed as a registered nurse at Sibley Hospital and was also employed by Sioux County to immunize school children in the late 1950s. She was a supervisor of the nursing wing at Sheldon Hospital, the initial director of nurses at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull and practiced home care. She was a charter member of Hope Christian Reformed Church, where she served in many ways.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Jered and Marcia of Boise, Idaho; a daughter, Janice Van Engen Richards of Boise: four grandchildren; a brother, Dowie Vander Schaaf of Grand Rapids, Michigan; a sister, Gerdena Van Maanen of Hull; and many nieces and nephews. Memorials are being directed to Western Christian High School in Hull.
