Myron John Oolman, 84, of Orange City died Friday, November 29. Funeral service was Monday, December 2, at 10:00 a.m. at First Reformed Church in Orange City with the Rev. Steven Vander Molen and the Rev. David Ter Beest officiating. Interment was at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Oolman was born August 1, 1918, in rural Orange City, the son of Jake and Marie (Reekers) Oolman. He was raised at Orange City. During World War II, he served in the United States Marine Corps, including the battle of Iwojima. On October 16, 1944, he married Pearl Harriet Van Peursem at Santa Anna, California. They made their home on the family farm west of Orange City. In 2000, they moved into Orange City. In August of 2001, he became a resident of the Heritage House. He was a member of First Reformed Church, where he was baptized and made profession of his faith. He loved nature, enjoyed visiting with his family and friends and liked to play card games. Survivors include his wife of 58 years; five children, Jack Oolman and his wife Carol of Edgerton, Minnesota, Marietta Van Der Weide and her husband Lee of Maurice, Phyllis Beukelman and her husband Allen of Sioux Center, Marvin Oolman and his friend Kim Brooke of Orange City and Myra Bomgaars and her husband Norwin of Orange City; 13 grandchildren; six greatgrandchildren; two sisters, Charlotte Huitink; and Marjorie Reinders, and her husband Edward, all of Orange City; and a sister-in-law, Eunice Oolman Huitink of Orange City. He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Marvin Jay; a brother, Harold Oolman; and a brotherin-law, Henry G.Huitink. Memorials are being directed to Chears Home Health and Hospice.
