JAMES JASPER, SR.
James Jasper, 63 passed away at his home on Thursday, Nov. 11, after suffering for 2 months with a brain disease. Mr. Jasper was born on May 9, 1880 on the Jasper homestead 1 mile south and 2¾ miles west of Orange City at which place he died. On March 14, 1901 he married Mrs. Gertrude Dykstra who died Nov. 26, 1906 leaving 3 children. On Oct. 8, 1907 he married Miss Gertie Sliekers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arend Sliekers of Orange City. To this union 14 children were born. Mr. Jasper was a prominent farmer and specialized in dairy farming. Surviving him besides his wife are the 17 children. Jessie, Mrs. John Jeltema of Orange City; Jim Jasper, jr. of Orange City; John Jasper of Ireton; Arie Jasper and Rena, Mrs. Tony Huizenga of Orange City; Alice, Mrs. Clarence Haarsma near Maurice; Raymond Jasper of Remsen; Hermina, Mrs. Ray Terpstra of Orange City; Marion Jasper of Camp Chaffee, Ark.; Harriet, Mrs. Henry Sprik of Prairie View, Kansas and Elsie, George, Viola, the twins, Vernon and Vera, Gertrude and Clarence at home. 26 grandchildren survive him and a brother Ring Jasper of Orange City. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the home and at the First Chr. Ref. church with. Rev. F. Schuurman and Rev. A. Jabaay officiating. Interment was made in the local cemetery. Among those coming from a distance were Mrs. H. Sprik of Prairie View, Kansas. Corp. Marion Jasper of Camp Chaffee, Ark, Herman Sliekers of Sioux City, Mrs. Mantin Schaferle, (formerly Sena Sliekers) of Jewell, la., Mrs. Raymond Jorgensen (formerly Henrietta Sliekers) of Garwin, la., and Albert Sliekers of Grundy Center, la.
