INTERMENT Carmel Cemetery - Carmel, Iowa Mina (Minnie) Van Berkum, 93, of Rock Valley, Iowa, died Sunday at the Hegg Memorial Health Center in Rock Valley.
She was born to Theodore and Trienje (DeRoos) Feekes on December 27,1901, in Plato Township in Sioux County, Iowa. On February 27,1923, she married William Tunis Van Berkum in Carmel, Iowa. They lived and farmed near Carmel. She took care of the farm after her husband experienced heart trouble. Minnie's daughter had Huntington's disease, so Minnie assisted in the raising of her daughter's eight children, going every day to care for them. She was a member of the Carmel Reformed Church in Rural Rock Valley, involved in the Ladies Aid and various other women's groups.
Survivors include: son-in-law, Milton Sandbulte of Rock Valley,Iowa; daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ruth Van Berkum, of Spencer, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Attie Schoep, and brother-in-law, Neal Vonk, both of Rock Valley.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, and son.
