Effie Vander Well, 92, of Rock Valley died Wednesday, July 6, in a hospital in Rock Valley. Services were at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 9, at First Reformed Church in Rock Valley with the Rev. Norman Van Heukelom officiating. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery.

Born Effie Dethmers May 24, 1896, in Hull, she attended school at Boyden and Northwestern Academy in Orange City. She taught school in the Boyden area prior to Thier marriage to Steve Vander Well June 24, 1921, in Rock Valley. The couple made their home in Rock Valley where he operated the Vander Well Hardware • Store. He died January 18, 1987. She was a member of First Reformed Church, Reformed Church Women and was a longtime Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Eugene and Joyce Vander Well of Taipei, Taiwan; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
