Carl Bylund - Age 82

Carl William Bylund, son of Herbert and Mabel (Miller) Bylund, was born on July 14, 1929 in Viola Center, Iowa. He attended school in Viola Center and while growing up helped his father on the family farm.

On May 27, 1951 Carl was united in marriage to Donna Teter at the First Christian Parsonage in Jefferson, Iowa. Four children were born of this union: DeAnna, Cynthia, William and Barbara. After their marriage, they made their home at various farms in the Coon Rapids, Audubon, Hamlin and Elk Horn, Iowa areas as a farm hand. He also worked for Steen Produce and Seed in Elk Horn and then for Olsen Produce as a route man.

Carl later spent time as a custodian for the Elk Horn-Kimballton Schools and later at Oakland Foods before retiring as the maintenance man at Avoca Nursing and Rehab in 1990.

Carl and Donna made their home in Avoca, Iowa and were members of the Calvary Baptist Church in Walnut, Iowa. On July 23, 2010 Carl became a resident of Avoca Nursing and Rehabilitation where he greatly enjoyed participating in all sorts of different activities.

After a short illness, Carl died at Creighton University Medical Center on March 18, 2012 having attained the age of eighty-two years, eight months and four days. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: Leola Olsen, Wilber Bylund, Edith Gardner, Betty Lauridsen, Robert Bylund, Milo Bylund, Norma Bylund, and Joann Schreiber.

He is survived by his wife Donna Bylund of Avoca, Iowa; his children: DeAnna and her husband David Woeppel of Waterloo, Nebraska; Cynthia Mandelkow of Colorado Springs, Colorado; William Bylund and his wife Reva of Avoca, Iowa and Barbara Bylund of Avoca, Iowa; 5 grandchildren: Angela Mandelkow and Brett Jones; Nicholas Mandelkow; Rachel and her husband Ron Clark; Kelsey Bylund and Ryan Coolidge; and Joshua Bylund; 6 great grandchildren: Brian, Andrew, Calvin, Caitlyn, Brayden, Colton and Kadence; his sister Lavonne Petersen of Exira, Iowa; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Services were conducted by Rev. Paul Hutchins at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca, Iowa on Friday, March 23, 2012 at 10:30 am. Interment was held at Graceland Cemetery in Avoca with Tom Gardner, Roger Bylund, Josh Bylund, Nicholas Mandelkow, Kenny Schreiber, Royan Teter, Ron Lauridsen and Jon Lauridsen serving as casket bearers.
