Mabel Bamesberger - Age 98

Mabel "Maybelle" Elizabeth Bamesberger was born on April 2, 1913, to Fred and Helen (Claussen) Busch in Bloomfield, Nebraska. She attended District 66 country school in Knox County near Bloomfield, Nebraska. She graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1930 and then became a teacher for two years at the District 66 country school and later attended Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska and later taught at various country schools.

In 1937, Mabel and a teacher friend moved to Pasadena, California where they worked until 1940 when she returned to Nebraska. She entered the VanSant Business School in Omaha, Nebraska and upon completion of her training became employed by the U.S. Government as a stenographer in 1942 with the War Department’s Seventh Services Command in Omaha. During this employment, she met and later married Arthur Bamesberger of Minden, Iowa on April 25, 1943 in Omaha.

After their marriage, Art and Mabel were transferred to the Seattle Port of Embarkation in Washington state until the end of the war in 1945. After the war, they returned to Omaha where they made their home for the next fifteen years. They then moved to Minden, Iowa where they farmed for ten years. Mabel served as the town clerk for two years and later worked as the treasurer manager of the John Deere Federal Credit Union in Omaha two days a week. Mabel and Arthur enjoyed traveling all over the United States together. They enjoyed ballroom dancing and won many contests at Peony Park in Omaha, Nebraska. In May of 1972, Mabel and Arthur retired to Bentonville, Arkansas where they were very active members of the First Methodist Church and enjoyed many activities there. Mabel was involved with various kinds of enjoyable volunteer work including organizing a local thrift store called "Helping Hands."

In October of 1992, Mabel and Arthur returned to Iowa where they made their home at Peace Haven in Walnut until November of 2003 when they moved to the Avoca Lodge where Art died on December 3 of that year. Mabel continued to make her home at Avoca Assisted Living where she had just celebrated her 98th birthday with an open house with her family and friends. While a resident, she enjoyed making crafts and watching sports and other shows on television. She was an active and social lady and will be greatly missed by her family and friends at the Avoca Lodge.

Mabel died on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, having attained the age of ninety-eight years and seventeen days. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers. She is survived by nieces and nephews and many friends.

Pastor Nancy Ross-Hullinger officiated the 2:00 PM Funeral Service at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca, Iowa on Friday, April 22, 2011. Honorary casket bearers were John Konz, John Roberts, Glenn Voge, Shawn Petersen, Ken Merrill, Leonard Penke, Brandon Petersen, and Brian Lubberstedt. Interment was held in the Minden Cemetery in Minden, Iowa with Ron Clark, Darrell Petersen, Brian Krohn, Barry Krohn, Jeremy Petersen, Larry Bamesberger, and Gary Lubberstedt serving as casket bearers.
