Funeral services: Friday, March 26, 2004, United Lutheran Church, Shelby, IA; Pastor Dale Jenson officiated. Burial was in the Shelby Cemetery in Shelby, IA.

Survived by: Sons, Harold Peters of Tennant, IA, Richard (spouse, Pola) Peters of Avoca, IA, and Eugene (spouse, Naomi) Peters of Tennant, IA; sister, Pearl (spouse, Leslie) West of Colorado Springs, CO; son-in-law, Merlyn (spouse, Jeanette) Knudsen of Kimballton, IA; 15 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends

Education: country schools in the Persia, IA and Shelby, IA areas, until Grade 8

Marriages: (1) Ernest Peters, Nov. 19, 1924, German Lutheran Church, Avoca, IA; (2) Isaac (“Ike”) Quimby, July 4, 1973, San Diego, CA.

Employment: After leaving school, Mildred cared for her ill mother, and helped her father on the farm. After her first marriage, she helped her husband farm. After her second marriage, she and Ike would spend winters at his home in Arizona, and the summers at her home in Iowa. After Ike’s death, she returned to Iowa full-time.

Hobbies/Interests: Member, United Lutheran Church, Shelby, IA; member, Neighborhood Ladies Pioneer Club. She enjoyed gardening, canning and freezing her own produce; she sewed for herself and for family, and crocheted afghans for her children and grandchildren. Mildred liked card games, fishing, dancing, and taking pictures. She gave her children and grandchildren copies of her autobiography, which she had written for her 90th birthday celebration.
