Funeral services: Saturday, April 10, 2004, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Jacksonville, IA; Pastor Henry Flessner officiated. Burial was in the Jacksonville Cemetery in Jacksonville, IA.

Survived by: Daughters, Roberta (spouse, Jim) Bodensteiner of Cedar Falls, IA, and Kathy (spouse, Jim) Cox of Palm Desert, CA; son, Paul (spouse, Debbie) Ladd of Boone, IA; brothers, Jim (spouse, Alveta) Petersen of Fort Collins, CO, and Clemen (spouse, Maxine) Petersen of Eaton, CO; sisters, Frances Grann of Springfield, MO; Verda (spouse, James) Larsen, Carol (spouse, Donald) Hopp, Mary (spouse, Richard) Klitgaard, and Lile (spouse, Richard) Petersen, all of Harlan, IA; Norma Ingwers of Denver, CO; and Linda Pollert of Grand Rapids, MI; 6 grandchildren; other relatives and friends

Education: attended Jackson #1 country school; graduated from Harlan (IA) High School with a Normal Teaching Certificate.

Marriage: Warren Virgil Ladd, Feb. 18, 1945, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Jacksonville, IA

Employment: After her graduation from high school, Irene taught at Polk #2, Jackson #2 and #9 country schools. After her marriage, she farmed with her husband south of Harlan until 1953; the couple then moved to rural Jacksonville and continued farming there. They retired in 1993 and moved to Kimballton, IA.

Hobbies/Interests: Member, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Jacksonville, IA, where she was active with the Lutheran Church Women, played handbells, and taught Sunday School. Member, JO Club; member, Farm Bureau Women; member and secretary of a Blue Cross group. Taking care of her family was most important to Irene; a good cook who made lovely wedding cakes, she also enjoyed participating in local Farmer’s Markets.
