Military rites conducted by the Shelby County VFW Post #941 and the Helmer Reyelt AL Post #150. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Kirkman, IA.

Survived by: Wife of 57 years, Iva Mae Rasmussen of Kirkman, IA; sons, Jon (spouse, Judy) Rasmussen and Michael (spouse, Suzanne) Rasmussen, both of Kirkman, IA; sister, Loretta Baughman of Kirkman, IA; sister-in-law, Virginia Rasmussen of Elk Horn, IA; grandchildren, Kevin Rasmussen and his friend, Natalie Piper, of Kirkman, IA, Scott (spouse, Michelle) Rasmussen of Elk Horn, IA, Kim (spouse, Todd) Williams of Harlan, IA, Jason Rasmussen and his friend, Emmalie Corbin, of Manilla, IA, and Gina (spouse, Matthew) Glenn of Harlan, IA; great-grandchildren, Amy Rasmussen, Rachel Rasmussen, Andrea Rasmussen, Jaynie Rasmussen, and Zachary Williams; other relatives and friends

Education: graduated from Tennant (IA) High School, Class of 1939

Military service: U. S. Navy, 1945 – 1946; served 9 months in the Pacific during WWII. Honorably discharged.

Marriage: Iva Mae Cox, Jan. 15, 1947, location not indicated

Employment: farmed, southeast of Kirkman, IA, from 1941 until his death (except while in the military). Was also employed by Walnut Grove Feed Co. for 16 years, and by Moews Seed Corn Co. for 47 years.

Hobbies/Interests: Member, Kirkman United Methodist Church; member, VFW Post 941, Harlan; charter member, Kirkman Volunteer Fire Department (formed in 1955); he held several offices with the fire department, including fire chief, until his retirement in 1980. He enjoyed traveling vacations, and his hobbies included gardening, woodworking, fishing, and boating.
