Funeral services: Saturday, May 22, 2004, Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home, Harlan, IA; Pastor Heather Ploen of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Harlan, IA, officiated. Burial of ashes conducted at a later date at the Kearney Cemetery in Kearney, Nebraska.

Survived by: Daughter, Lori Schultz of Harlan, IA; grandchildren, Cynthia (spouse, William) Simmons of St. Joseph, MO, Carla Schultz of Dawn, MO, Heidi (spouse, Scott) Michael of Boone, IA, and Lora (spouse, Allen) Bierbaum of Ames, IA; 6 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; other relatives and friends

Education: graduated from Arapahoe Public High School, Class of 1929.

Marriage: Walter Julius Earnest Maahs, April 29, 1933, Arapahoe, NE

Employment: After graduating from high school, she taught school near Arapahoe for 1 year, and then clerked for 2 years in a general store. After her marriage in 1933, the couple farmed near Arapahoe until 1942, at which time they moved to Lexington, NE. They moved again in 1953 to Gibbon, NE, until they retired in 1975.

Hobbies/Interests: Member, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Harlan, IA; Frieda enjoyed the satisfaction of hard work and had a strong work ethic. She stayed busy with church and numerous ladies’ aid activities, and enjoyed quilting, cooking, and making ceramics.
