Employment: After his time in the military, LaVern farmed and raised livestock south of Irwin, IA. He retired in the early 1980s.

Hobbies/Interests: Member, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Irwin, IA. Enjoyed traveling in the United States and Europe, and fishing in Canada; liked to play Pinochle.
