Survivors: wife of 54 years, Pola Peters of Shelby, IA; daughters, Carol Brigandi and Judy Peters, both of Omaha, NE, Becky (spouse, Richard) Udron of Little Rock, AR, and Rita (spouse, Kevin) Epperson of Council Bluffs, IA; son, Steven (spouse, Joyce) Peters of Humboldt, IA; brothers, Harold Peters and Eugene (spouse, Naomi) Peters, both of Tennant, IA; aunt, Pearl (spouse, Leslie) West of Simla, CO; grandchildren, Kyla Peters, Dylan Peters, Sarah Peters, and Kelsey Peters, all of Humboldt, IA, Katie Udron and Sara Udron, both of Little Rock, AR, and Heath Epperson, Brett Epperson, Ryan Epperson, and Amy Jo Epperson, all of Council Bluffs, IA; other relatives and friends

Predeceased by: Parents, Ernest and Mildred (nee Sinison) Peters; sister, Pearl Knudsen

Education: graduated from Tennant (IA) Consolidated School, Class of 1946

Religious affiliation: baptized and confirmed as a member of Shelby Lutheran Church, Shelby, IA

Military service: 1951 – 1959, U.S. Army Reserves, retiring with the rank of Sergeant First Class

Marriage: Pola Ann Ericksen, May 12, 1951, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Jacksonville, IA

Employment: After his high school graduation and with his brother, Harold, he began farming his parents’ land in 1947. After his marriage in 1951, the couple continued to farm the family land; Richard raised dairy cattle and hogs, in addition to growing grain crops. In 1966, Richard and Pola purchased a 200 acre farm northwest of Avoca, IA. In 1970, they moved into their new home on this land and, over the years, added sheds, buildings, and granaries to their farmstead. As a result, Richard received the Farm Conservation Award in 1976.

Hobbies/Interests: Member, United Lutheran Church, Shelby, IA; board member, Shelby-Tennant Community School for six years; enjoyed making wooden and metal crafts, dancing, golfing, and traveling.
