Died: April 1, 2008, Myrtue Medical Center, Harlan, IA

Funeral services: Saturday, April 5, 2008, at the First Presbyterian Church in Shelby, Iowa, with Mr. Steve Kiesel officiated. Burial was in the Shelby Cemetery in Shelby, IA.

Survived by: husband, Dean Luxford of Shelby, IA; daughter, Dixie (spouse, Mac) McClelland of Omaha, NE; son, Bill (spouse, Diane) Luxford of Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Karen of Elkhorn, NE, Nicole and Jessica, both of Omaha, NE, and Amber of Savannah, GA; great-grandchildren, Ty and McKensie, both of Omaha, NE; niece, Diana (spouse, H. Wayne) Schweitzer of Springfield, MO; other relatives and friends

Predeceased by: parents, Ernest C. and Anna C. (nee Easton) Fuqua; brother, Donald Fuqua

Education: graduated from Fairfield High School, where she was an award-winning baton twirler; attended Parsons College in Fairfield, IA, for 2 years, where she was a majorette.

Marriage: Dean Howard Luxford, Dec. 21, 1945, Parsons College Chapel, Fairfield, IA.

Employment: While attending college, Darlene worked at a civil defense plant in Fairfield, IA; after her marriage, they moved to Shelby, IA, where she helped start the marching band in the Shelby school. In 1952, she began working at Dean’s insurance office. Later, she worked in real estate, as well. Retired August 1, 1965. From 1970-72, they were part owners of the Shelby Dairy Queen, helping to build the building and business.

Hobbies/Interests: Member, First Presbyterian Church, Shelby, IA, where she was active in the church ladies group. Member, “Corner Attic Artist Club” in Shelby; previously a member, Eastern Star. Loved to travel and enjoyed painting. She had the honor of designing the Shelby Centennial emblem.
