Died: April 1, 2008, Manning Regional Health Center, Manning, IA

Funeral services: Friday, April 4, 2008, Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home; Harlan, IA; Rev. Steven Martens officiated. Burial was in Jacksonville Cemetery in Jacksonville, IA.

Survived by: Daughter, Judy (spouse, Rex) Grabill of Audubon, IA; sons, Robert (spouse, Bonne) Rasmussen of Latta, SC, and Jerry Rasmussen (fiancée Pat Klesack) of Bettendorf, IA; sisters-in-law, Mabel Mathiesen of Exira, IA, and Gladys Kelly of Centralia, KS; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends

Predeceased by: parents, George and Margaret (nee Lindstrom) Petersen; husband, Ray Rasmussen (deceased April 8, 1980); brother, George E. Petersen; grandson, Aaron Rasmussen

Education: graduated from Harlan High School, Class of 1934

Marriage: Raymond Christian Rasmussen, Aug. 29, 1936, Council Bluffs, IA

Employment: In 1946, Ray contracted polio, and Fern took care of him; the disease impacted the family for many years. In 1947, the moved to Harlan and owned and operated the Harmony Café until 1949, when they moved to their farm in Irwin (IA) farm until Ray’s death in 1980. Fern then went to live on her daughter and son-in-law’s farm near Fiscus, IA; In 1992, she moved to Audubon, IA.

Hobbies/Interests: member, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Irwin, IA; was a devoted caregiver. She loved the farm, as well as cooking, baking pies and cookies, and doing crochet and cross-stitch projects. Fern enjoyed reading, playing solitaire, and solving word searches.
