Funeral services: Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, Trinity Lutheran Church, Avoca, IA; Pastor Dennis Reich and Pastor Dave Krueger officiated. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Hancock, IA, with the Scheffler Hildebrand A.L. Post #720 of Hancock providing Military Rites.

Survived by: Wife of 55 years, Hazel; daughters, Julie (spouse, Ken) Young of Grinnell, IA, Janis (spouse, David) Hannasch of Atlantic, IA, Janel (spouse, Kirk) Tyler of West Des Moines, IA, Loyla (spouse, Dean) Renfeld of Sioux City, IA, and Loree (spouse, TJ) Eddleman of Lake Kiowa, TX; son, Lonny (spouse, Liz) Miller of Gretna, NE; sisters, Doris (spouse, Don) Eyler of Carson, IA, and Gloria (spouse, Gene) Gleaves of Oakland, IA; brother, Jeep (spouse, Ruth) Miller of Oakland, IA; grandchildren, Jill Hannasch, Jessica and Jay Tyler, Aaron, Laura and Jonathan Miller, Derek and Kristen Renfeld, Logan and Jamie Eddleman; many other relatives and friends

Predeceased by: parents, Glenn and Hazel (nee Taylor) Miller; sister, Barbara Bird

Education: graduated from Oakland (IA) High School, Class of 1947

Military Service: U. S. Army, serving during the Korean War

Marriage: Hazel Jacobsen, Jan. 31, 1953, Avoca, IA.

Employment: farmer, living on Hazel’s family farm (east of Hancock) for over 50 years. Along with farming, Maurice was employed with the ASCS and the Iowa Crop Association, as well as his personal business of Railand Hobbies.

Hobbies/Interests: Member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Avoca; his lifelong passion for trains grew while on the farm, which was located along the Rock Island/Iowa Interstate Railroad; it also allowed for increased development of his hobby of model railroading and his retail business. Maurice was a member of various model railroading clubs, the Scheffler Hildebrand American Legion Post #720 in Hancock, IA, and a member of the Korean War Veterans Association.
