Died: Oct. 7, 2008, Harlan, IA

Funeral services: Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, Shelby United Methodist Church, Shelby, IA; Rev. Orris L. Drake officiated. Burial was in the Shelby Cemetery in Shelby, IA.

Survived by: Son, Bob (spouse, Paula) Becker of Shelby, IA; daughters, Betty (spouse, John) Stamp of Persia, IA, and Karean (spouse, Hal) Madsen of Santa Ana, CA; sister, Frances Lawrence of Avoca, IA; 9 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends

Predeceased by: parents, Raymond Oliver and Maude (nee Evans) Davis; husband, Herbert William Becker (deceased May 24, 1985); sisters, Elsie, Martha, Mary, Margaret, Alice, and Bertha; brothers, Raymond, Wilbur, and Robert

Education: attended Pleasant Ridge Country School, which was located right next to her family’s farm; later, she attended Tennant (IA) High School

Marriage: Herbert Becker, Jan. 28, 1931, First Methodist Church Parsonage in Harlan, IA

Employment: After getting married, Esther and Herb moved to Herb’s hometown of Russell, IA; Late in 1945, they moved to Esther’s family farm near Persia. Many years later, they were hired by Bob Cooper to manage a farm north of Shelby, IA, where they worked hard, raising livestock and grain crops.

Hobbies/Interests: Member, Tennant United Methodist Church; was involved with the ladies of the church. A dedicated homemaker who took loving care of her family and friends, Esther was known for her homemade noodles and fried chicken. As a consequence, Esther was named Homemaker of the Year by the Harlan newspaper. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, and bowling in her spare time, and loved to travel to California to visit with her daughter and family.
