Funeral services: Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Irwin, IA, with Pastor Ron Rasmussen officiated. Burial in Danway Cemetery in rural Shelby County, IA.

Survived by: Sons, Edwin (spouse, Connie) Benson of Irwin, IA, and Keith Benson of Wayzata, MN; daughters, Kathryn (spouse, Arnie) Nelson of Wayzata, MN, and Myrna Havick of Harlan, IA; sisters, Maxine Browning of Harlan, IA, and Gilma (spouse, Don) Bornholdt of Solon Springs, WI; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; other relatives and friends

Predeceased by: Parents, Adolph and Nellie (nee Hanson) Olson; husband, Jesse Milan Benson (deceased Feb. 28, 1968); sisters, Bernice Wareberg and Adeline Stolz; brother, LaVerne Olson

Education: graduated from Irwin and Harlan (IA) high Schools, Class of 1932

Marriage: Jesse Milan Benson, Oct. 14, 1934, at Martin Benson’s home in Irwin, IA

Employment: After receiving her teaching certificate, she taught at the Danway Country School for several years; after her marriage, she helped on the couple’s farm east of Irwin for many years. Later, she worked in the Irwin Community School kitchen, and then as a ward clerk at Myrtle Medical Center in Harlan, IA.

Hobbies/Interests: active member, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Irwin, IA: had served as Sunday School superintendent and was a member of the ladies groups. Eleanor was an enthusiastic volunteer, and was given the 1989 Iowa Governor’s Volunteer Award. She enjoyed quilting; was known for her excellent chicken noodle soup.
