Funeral services: Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, Peace United Church of Christ, Walnut, IA; Rev. Gail Muckey and Wayne Paulsen officiated. Burial was in the Layton Township Cemetery in Walnut, IA.

Survived by: Husband of 69 years, Norman Johannsen of Harlan, IA; daughter, JoAnn Krummel of Avoca, IA; son, Galan (spouse, Janet) Johannsen of Harlan, IA; 7 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends

Predeceased by: Parents, Herman C. and Amalia M. (nee Karstens) Burmeister; brothers, Alvin Burmeister and Harry Burmeister; son-in-law, Willis Krummel

Marriage: Norman Russell Johannsen, Aug. 2, 1939, Avoca, IA

Employment: 1940-1975, farmed in Jackson and Monroe Townships where Zelda helped with the farm work, gardening and helping to pick corn; in 1975, their son, Galan moved with his family to the farm, and Norman and Zelda moved to Monroe Township for the next 10 years. Retired in 1985, moving to Harlan

Hobbies/Interests: Zelda loved to quilt for herself, family, and church. With spouse, they enjoyed traveling south to TX and AZ, and spending time fishing, camping, playing cards, and dancing.
