Funeral services: Tuesday, March 15, 2011, Peace United Church of Christ, Walnut, IA; Pastor Heather Ploen officiated. Burial at Layton Township Cemetery, Walnut, IA.

Survived by: Daughter, JoAnn Krummel of Avoca, IA; son, Galan (spouse, Janet) Johannsen of Harlan, IA; 7 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends

Predeceased by: Parents, Christian Frederick and Pauline Lena (nee Namanny) Johannsen; wife, Zelda M. Johannsen (deceased October 17, 2008, Avoca, IA); sister, Martha Clausen; brothers, Herman Johannsen, Arnold Johannsen, and Bruno Johannsen; and son-in-law, Willis Krummel

Education: Jackson #9 country school through Grade 8 (Shelby County, IA)

Marriage: Zelda Marie Burmeister, Aug. 2, 1939, English Lutheran Church, Avoca, IA

Employment: For 2years after their marriage, Norman and Zelda farmed with Nic Ohms; from 1942-1947, they farmed in Monroe Township, and then purchased the Ohms farm in Jackson Township (all Shelby County). They farmed that land until 1975, when their son, Galan, and his family moved to the farm. Norman and Zelda then moved to acreage in Monroe Township (Shelby County), where they lived for ten years before retiring to Harlan in 1990.

Hobbies/Interests: Enjoyed traveling south to Texas and Arizona, camping and fishing at area parks and lakes. Enjoyed watching sports, particularly the Chicago Cubs; also enjoyed restoring antique John Deere tractors and driving them in parades; was a former member of the Golden Kiwanis of Harlan, and a former board member of the Peace Haven Home of Walnut; had served as a Director for the Jackson #9 school. Member, Peace United Church of Christ in Walnut, IA, where he had served as a board member for 4 years
