Education: graduated from Omaha Tech High School, Class of 1947
Military service: From 1948-49, he served in the U.S. Army at the U.S. Army Station in Fort Lewis, WA, as a member of Company B, 72nd Heavy Tank Battalion (Private First Class). From 1949-57, Allan served as a member of the Nebraska Army Reserves, 355th Infantry Regiment (Sergeant First Class).
Marriage: Beverly Lucille Miller, April 7, 1956, Omaha, NE. They renewed their marriage vows on Easter Sunday, 2008.
Employment: 1948: began work as a carrier for the U. S. Postal Service, and returned to the Postal Service after his military service; for 18 years, the couple lived in Council Bluffs, IA. In 1979, they moved to their acreage in Shelby, IA. Allan retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1986.
Hobbies/Interests: camping, hiking, reading, doing crossword puzzles, playing backgammon and chess; always attended the grandchildren’s events; he participated in Men’s League Club basketball, men’s fastpitch (20 years), men’s slowpitch (4 years), and men’s bowling leagues. He particularly enjoyed coaching both boys and girls in basketball, softball, football, and pitching and catching skills; for 50 years, he enjoyed teaching both sports and life skills
