OBITUARY - JOHN D. SHAW

John D. SHAW was born in Lee county, Iowa, August 13, 1847. In early life he united with the U. B. Church, later with the M.E. Church. He leaves one brother and four sisters: Hattie NORRIS, Graham, Missouri; Lydia JACKSON, Redding, Iowa; Mary RICE, Oklahoma; Eliza GATES, Lamoni, Iowa; A. E. SHAW, Oklahoma. He passed away January 2, 1905, at the age of 57 years 4 months and 19 days.

Funeral services at the home of his nephew, Albert JACKSON, south of Redding by Rev. SHEETZ, pastor of the Christian Church. He spoke briefly from 1 Cor. 3:22. Remains interred in the Brushey Cemetery.

His spirit hath flown to its rest,
Afar from our sorrowing clod;
To the bright, happy land of the blest,
And the smiles of its glorious God.
He lingered a season below.
But to wash from his spirit the stain;
Then soar'd from our valley of woe,
To the far heights of glory again.

He hath fled to the mansions above,
He hath drank of the fountains of love,
And found the blood-ransomed throng;
And joined in the seraphim's song.

He hath gone to the land of his birth,
Where the anthems of holiness rise;
He wearied of dwelling on earth,
And returned to his home in the skies.
