OBITUARY ~ RONNIE GENE "RON" NEWTON
August 06, 1920 ~ February 24, 2014

Ronnie Gene Newton, 69, was born November 6, 1944 to Junior and Dorothy Newton in Kellerton, Iowa. He passed away at his home on Saturday, February 22, 2014.

Ron served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era with Charley Sissel on the buddy enlistment. Charley was killed in Vietnam.

Ron was a jack-of-all-trades. He enjoyed winning every trophy available for his street rod and going to stock car races with his family. Ron spent much time rebuilding his John Deere tractor and being chief wine master of Hooterberry Wines. Ron had a beautiful productive orchards and garden in their yard.

His siblings have had many laughs over their escapades with their brother. Ron cooked many wonderful family dinners.

Ron and Nora's six grandchildren loved visiting. His five granddaughters and one grandson were always calling and visiting. Grandpa was always there to help them and was very supportive of hamily and friends. Many deer were processed in his garage for his sons and their friends.

Ronnie is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lenora Matheny Newton; sons, Tony (Angie) Newton and Terry (Shelly) Newton; cat, Doodily; grandchildren, Crystal, Lacy, Trevor, Shelby and Leslie; great-grandson, Maclin; brother, AC Newton; sister, Linda (Bill) Smith; twin sister, Minerva Logan; brothers-in-law, Jerry, Richard and Dave Matheny; sisters-in-law, Donna, Sue, Loretta, Doris and Myrna, and a host of other family and beloved friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 25, 2014, at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens in Des Moines with Don Godwin officiating.

Pallbearers included John McClain, Tim Newton, Ed Rice, Branden Rice, Ralph Strait and Gerry Waseskuk.

Burial followed at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
