Bickell, W H (Bill) -
W. H. "Bill" Bickel was born on a ranch near Litchfield, in Sherman County, Nebraska on October 30, 1912 to Henry and Katherine (Sheehan) Bickel.
He attended grade school through 8th grade at the Bickel Rural School District #47. He attended high school at Litchfield, graduating with the class of 1930. He then began ranching with his father, Henry.
He moved to Mount Ayr, IA with his parents in 1940.
On September 15, 1941 he was united in marriage to Mildred Bramer at Maryville, Mo. They farmed in Ringgold County for 28 years.
In 1969 they moved to Grand Island, NE where he worked in the warehouse of Wheeler Farm Supply until his health failed. While in Grand Island Mildred and Bill managed an apartment house for 25 years.
In January of 1994 they moved back to Mount Ayr to be near their families and friends.
In March of 1996 Bill entered the Clearview Nursing Home.
He is survived by his wife Mildred; sons Dale and wife Maria of Clearfield, IA and Roger and wife Marilyn of Erie, CO; daughters, Joan Bickel of Corning, IA and Sandy and husband Shay Khalilinia of Aurora, CO; grandsons Vince Bickel of Gordon, NE, Brian Bickel of Clearfield, Roger Bickcl, Jr. of Erie, CO; granddaughters, Brenda Willis and husband Craig of rural Diagonal, Sally and Katy Khalilinia of Aurora, CO and great grandson, Hagan Dale Willis whom he dearly loved.
He also leaves sister, Blance Bickel of Peoria, AZ, Fran Shuman of Lincoln, NE, Ruby O'Connor of New Market, IA, Norma Weehler and
husband Lee of Benton, IA and Erma Wentz and husband Larry of Atwater, CA; sisters-in-law, Ferne Bickel of Mercer, MO and Lisa Bickel of Baltimore, MA, also many special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Fritz and Floyd, sisters Kay Wiest and Ruth Davis and four brothers-in-law.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 4, 1998 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Mount Ayr, IA with the Rev, Michael Druhl officiating. Music was provided by Debbie Cannon and James and June Smith.
Casketbearers were Richard Weehler, Bob Weehler, Lyle Farris, Ron Bickel, Ken Bramer, and Ed Knight. Honorary pallbearers were Vince Bickel, Brian Bickel, Roger Bickel, Jr., Shay Khalilinia, and Craig Willis.
Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr, IA. Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
