Bailey, George Franklin Sr. -
George Franklin Bailey, Sr. 85 of Clearfield, IA passed away Friday afternoon May 15, 1998 at the Clearview Home in Clearfield.
He was the son of Harve E. and Glenna M. Griffith Bailey and was born on September 27, 1912 in Ringgold County, IA.
He attended country schools and graduated from the Clearfield High School in 1932. He was a lifelong resident of Ringgold and Taylor County. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Clearfield and the Lions Club.
George was united in marriage to Lucille May King on August 26, 1936 in South Dakota. They spent most of their married life in Clearfield.
George was a trucker, a farmer, owned and operated the Bailey Seed and Feed Company and was the Editor of the Clearfield Chronicle for 36 years, known to many as "The Old Pressman" and to many others as "the Old Seed Sorter."
He is survived by his wife Lucille; children Pauletta K. Bailey Burgher of Dallas Center, IA; Dwight and Karol Lynn Bailey Matheny and George F. Jr. and Linda Bailey of Clearfield; 8 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; sisters Harriet Bush of Ephrata, WA and Jim and Florence Street of Butte, MT as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law Donald G. Burgher; brothers; Linus and Lola Bailey of San Gabriel, CA, Melvin Bailey in infancy, and Beryl Bailey in infancy; sisters Fred and Mary Harshaw of Clearfield; Lois Lillian Bailey in infancy and Bill and Oris Ruby of Mt. Ayr, IA and brother-in-law Howard Bush of Ephrata, WA.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 18, 1998 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Alan Rusk officiating. Music was provided by Patty Parrish and Kathy Nelson.
Casketbearers were Lester Elliott, Clint Kniep, Jason Butler, Joe Routh, Al Brammer, and Keith Moore. Honorary pallbearers were Shane Bailey, Michael Burgher, Jake Naill, Staci Naill, Jason Walke, Dr. Vale Thomson, Darwin Sollars, Robert Hower, Mark Garrett,
Pat Cowan, Michelle Walke, Tori Bailey, Courtney Matheny, Ashley Weeda, Gerad Naill, J.B. Routh, Clyde Bailey, Lyle Leonard, Dan Stewart, and Mike Routh.
Interment was in the Clearfield Cemetery at Clearfield, IA.
Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
