Taylor, Leona Marie Hutchinson -
Leona Marie Hutchison, daughter of Otto and Nellie (James) Hutchison was born April 30, 1908 at Fort Morgan, Colorado. She attended school at Centerville, graduated from Chariton High School in 1927, where her father taught Industrial Arts. She attended Junior College in Chariton for two years and later came to Diagonal where she taught
Primary, First and Second grades in the school.
On February 22, 1933 she was united in marriage to Floyd Taylor in Grant City, Missouri. They lived on the Platte River bottom where Marilyn and Richard were born and moved to the Grace place on the High and Dry in 1941 where Judith
was born.
Floyd and Leona made this their home for 21 years and moved to Diagonal in 1973.
Leona continued to make her home in Diagonal until September 1994 when she entered the Clearview Home following a broken hip. Floyd and Leona celebrated 46 years of marriage.
Leona was a member of the United Church of Diagonal, active in the quilting club, a member of the Priscilla club and the neighborhood club. For many years she taught adult class at Sunday school.
She is survived by two daughters, Marilyn (Dave) McCalley of Cedar Falls, Judith (Claire) Newton and one son, Richard (Janis) Taylor of Diagonal; grandchildren, Lisa McCalley of Lawrence, Kansas, Michael (JeanAnn) Taylor, Bill (Joni) Taylor of Creston, Todd (Jennifer) Taylor of Parkville, Missouri, Scott Taylor of Omaha, Nebraska, Jim (Patty) Newton, Steve (Terri) Newton of Diagonal and Doug Newton of Elk Horn, Iowa; five great grandchildren, Ryan and Blair Taylor, Colby Taylor and Danielle and Nolan Newton; a sister Lois (Stan) Schleuter of Temperance, Michigan. Also one brother-in-law and five sisters-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and stepmother, Esther Hutchison.
Funeral services were held on Friday, November 28,1997 at the United Church of Diagonal at Diagonal, Iowa with the Rev Michael Druhl officiating. Music was provided by Caryl Dukes and Barbara Gifford.
Casketbearers were Lisa Lange, Mike Taylor, Mark McCalley, Bill Taylor, Jim Newton, John McCalley, Ann McCalley, Steve Newton, Scott Taylor, Todd Taylor, and Doug Newton.
Interment was at the Diagonal Cemetery at Diagonal, Iowa.
